Linda Hayward, Ph.D., an associate professor in the college’s department of physiological sciences, died on Oct. 10 after approximately 25 years of service to the University of Florida.
Hayward taught cardiovascular physiology and neuroscience and directed the Florida Veterinary Scholars Program for many years. She received tenure and promotion in 2004, becoming only the second woman in her department to do so. Among her many accomplishments were receiving the Pfizer Award for Veterinary Research Excellence in 2012 and the C.E. Cornelius Young Investigator Award in 2003.
Lisa Conti, D.V.M. (’88), director of strategic initiatives and the first chief science officer at the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, died on Nov. 6. A resident of Tallahassee, Conti spent years contributing to the national and international one-health movement. She received the college’s Alumni Achievement Award in 2003 for her many accomplishments.
