A dog named Lou underwent dental surgery in December at the UF Small Animal Hospital’s primary care and dentistry service to repair a fractured jaw. He was sent home to his owner, a resident of the GRACE homeless shelter in Gainesville.
Several of UF College of Veterinary Medicine alumni were involved. Molly Pearson, D.V.M., (’88), who volunteers at GRACE under the umbrella of St. Francis Pet Care, along with Patti Gordon, D.V.M. (’84), noticed that Lou had a probable jaw fracture. The hospital was able use Pet Samaritan funds to help Lou, whose prognosis is very good. In this photo, taken just prior to his discharge, are Jenna Rooks, D.V.M. (’14), UF veterinary student Dana Haimovitz and Amy Stone, D.V.M., Ph.D. (’99). Rooks and Stone performed the dog’s dental procedure.
